The difference in design between a terrace board and a wall cladding panel

Category :

A good home should be not only aesthetically pleasing but also have a level of comfort and security that you can rely on. It’s important to take measures to protect your home from external factors while ensuring it is functional and easy to maintain. This is why at NewTechWood, we encourage our customers to invest in either composite siding or composite decking for the exterior of their homes. But before installing one or the other, you need to know the difference between them. Why invest in composite siding or a composite wood deck for your home?

WHAT IS COMPOSITE SIDING?

Composite siding is an alternative for finishing the exterior walls of a home or commercial building, made from panels of plastic and recycled wood. It has the appearance of real wood, but its durability and resistance to insects and external elements place it among the top choices. The UltraShield technology makes our composite siding resistant to stains, mold, fading, and more so you can enjoy a reliable and durable home exterior without worrying about frequent maintenance.

WHAT IS A COMPOSITE DECK?

Suppose you need a new deck, but you are unsure if you can handle the challenge of maintaining a real wood structure. Composite decks are similar to siding as both are built from composite wood materials that simulate the look of genuine wood while providing better longevity and increased durability. All our products feature Ultrashield technology and come with a warranty of up to 25 years.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

While we develop composite deck boards with similar qualities and features, a few aspects distinguish them, including:

  • Interlocking Panels: One of the main differences between composite siding and boards is that composite siding is constructed with interlocking boards. The exterior composite siding panels lock together to prevent moisture and materials that could damage the building. This feature makes them perfectly suited to protect the exterior of the structure.
  • Rain Barrier: Another feature of composite siding is its rain protection. This protection makes the panels water-resistant, effectively guarding against the elements unlike composite deck boards. The rain protection layer creates a space between the exterior wall and the siding, allowing air to circulate and water to drain and evaporate rather than becoming trapped within the siding. Composite deck boards may not have full protection against external elements despite their stain and mold resistance.

This design difference is attributed to how moisture and water interact with the composite wood material. For a composite deck to last longer, water must move between the boards and not sit on the surface of the deck. With siding, the aim is to protect the building’s exterior from moisture and create a barrier against external elements.

Since composite siding does not sit flat on the ground, there is no chance for water to sit on its surface. For optimal use of NewTechWood materials, you should not take products that are not intended for their primary use as each product at NewTechWood is designed with a specific purpose. Our composite siding provides a quality surface protection, while our composite boards are designed to last long and have the most natural appearance possible.
